Hadith 1495
´Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that an Ansari companion (in one narration, it is mentioned that some companions) told me that they were sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at night when suddenly a star shot across and shone brightly. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When such an incident used to happen in the days of ignorance, what did you say about it?" They replied, "Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) know best. In the days of ignorance, we used to say that tonight a great person has been born or has died." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A star does not shoot for anyone's death or birth, but when our Lord, Glorified and Exalted is He, decrees something, the angels who bear the Throne glorify Him. Then, upon hearing their glorification, the angels of the nearest heaven also glorify Him, until the glorification reaches the inhabitants of the lowest heaven. Then those who are close to the Throne-bearers ask them, 'What has your Lord commanded?' They inform them. In this way, the inhabitants of the heavens ask one another until the news reaches the inhabitants of the lowest heaven. The jinn snatch that news and convey it to their friends. When the angels see those jinn, they strike them with stars (so these stars are their whips). Then, whatever news the jinn bring, if they convey only that much, it is true, but they mix lies with it and add more to it."
