Hadith 1436
Lady Asma bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with both of them) says: Zubair bin Al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him) married me (who was the cousin of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him), and he had no wealth, nor any slave, nor anything else except for a horse. I used to graze his horse and do all the work for the horse and train it, and I would also crush date stones for his camel, graze it, give it water, sew the bucket, and knead the flour. But I could not bake bread well, so the Ansari women neighbors would bake my bread, and they were very loving women. Asma said: I used to carry date stones on my head from the land of Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him), which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had given him as a grant, and that land was two miles from Madinah. (A mile is six thousand handspans, a handspan is twenty-four fingers, a finger is six barley grains, and a farsakh is three miles.) One day, I was bringing date stones from there when on the way I met the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and several of his companions. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called me and then made a sound to make the camel kneel so that I could ride behind him. I felt shy and modest. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By Allah, carrying the load of date stones on your head is harder than riding with me." (Meaning, you endure such a burden, so why not ride with me?) Lady Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Later, Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) gave me a servant, and she started doing all the work for the horse, as if he had set me free.
