´Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says that` Allah Almighty has cursed those who tattoo and those who get tattooed, and those who pluck facial hair and those who have it plucked, and those who widen their teeth for beauty (so that they appear beautiful and youthful), and those who alter Allah’s creation (natural form). Then this news reached a woman of the tribe of Banu Asad, who was called Umm Ya’qub and she was a reciter of the Qur’an. So she came to Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, “What is this news I have heard that you have cursed those who tattoo and those who get tattooed, and those who pluck facial hair and those who have it plucked, and those who widen their teeth, and those who alter Allah’s creation?” Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “Why should I not curse those whom the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has cursed, and this is present in the Book of Allah?” The woman said, “I have read whatever is in the Qur’an in two covers, but I did not find it.” Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “If you have read it, then you must have found Allah Almighty’s statement: ‘Whatever the Messenger of Allah gives you, take it, and whatever he forbids you from, abstain from it.’ (Al-Hashr: 7)” The woman said, “Some of these things are done by your own wife.” Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “Go and see.” She went to his wife but found nothing. Then she returned and said, “I did not see any of these things.” Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “If she did so, we would not live with her.”
