Hadith 1363
Narrated from Umm al-Mu’minin Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) one morning got up silently (as if he was distressed). I said, “O Messenger of Allah! Today I have seen your blessed face in a way I have never seen before.” He (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Jibril (peace be upon him) had promised to meet me last night but did not come, and by Allah, he has never broken a promise.” Then the thought of the puppy that was in our tent came to his (peace and blessings be upon him) heart, so he ordered it to be removed, and it was removed. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) took water and sprinkled it where the dog had been sitting. When evening came, Jibril (peace be upon him) arrived, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “You had promised to meet me last night.” He said, “Yes, but we do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture.” Then, the next morning, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the killing of dogs, to the extent that he (peace and blessings be upon him) even had the dog of a small garden killed, but spared the dog of a large garden.
