Hadith 1340
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) once wore a silk cloak which had been gifted to him. Then he immediately took it off and sent it to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). The people said, "O Messenger of Allah! You have taken it off?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "Jibreel has forbidden me." Upon hearing this, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) weeping and said, "O Messenger of Allah! You gave me something which you disliked; what will become of me?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I did not give it to you to wear, but rather so that you may sell it." Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sold it for two thousand dirhams.
