Hadith 1269
Narrated Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) that Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) delivered a sermon on the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), praising and glorifying Allah, then said: After praising and glorifying Allah! Know that when wine was made unlawful, it used to be made from five things: wheat, barley, dates, grapes, and honey. And wine is that which clouds the mind (regardless of what it is made from). (By this, the saying of Imam Abu Hanifa is refuted, who said that wine is specific to grapes, because Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said this on the pulpit and all the Companions accepted it, and no one objected, so it became consensus.) O people! I wished that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had explained to us in detail about three things: the inheritance of the grandfather, the inheritance of kalalah, and some chapters regarding usury.
