Hadith 1250
Sayyiduna Rafi’ bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I said, “O Messenger of Allah! Tomorrow we will be fighting the enemy and we do not have knives with us?” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Hurry or be clever; whatever causes blood to flow and Allah’s name is mentioned over it, eat of it, except for teeth and nails.” And I will tell you the reason: the tooth is bone, and the nail is the knife of the Abyssinians. The narrator said: We received camels and goats as spoils of war, then one of the camels ran wild, so a man shot it with an arrow and it stopped. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Some of these camels become wild and run away like wild animals. So when any animal becomes like this, do the same with it.” (i.e., target it from a distance with an arrow).
