Hadith 1241
Sayyiduna ‘Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about hunting with a mi‘rad (a stick with a metal tip), so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When it strikes with its iron tip, then eat (the game), but if it strikes with its wooden side and (the animal) dies, then it is waqidh (i.e., mauqudhah, which is killed by a stone or wood and is forbidden in the Noble Qur’an), so do not eat it. And I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about (hunting with) a dog, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you release your dog, mentioning the name of Allah, then eat (the game), but if the dog eats from the game, then do not eat it, because it hunted for itself. I said: If I find another dog along with my dog, and I do not know which dog caught (the game)? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not eat it, because you mentioned the name of Allah over your dog, but not over the other dog.
