Hadith 1215
Sayyiduna Abu Humayd Sa’idi (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed a man from the tribe of Asad, who was called Ibn al-Lutbiyyah, to collect the charity and zakat from Banu Sulaym. When he returned, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took account from him. He said, “This is your wealth, and this is a gift (which people gave me).” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Why did you not sit in your father’s or mother’s house so that your gift would come to you, if you are truthful?” Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed us, and after praising and glorifying Allah, he said, “I appoint one of you to a task from among the tasks that Allah has given me, then he comes and says, ‘This is your wealth and this is a gift that was given to me.’ Why did he not sit in his father’s or mother’s house so that his gift would come to him, if he is truthful? By Allah, none of you will take anything unlawfully except that he will meet Allah on the Day of Resurrection carrying it on his neck. I will surely recognize some of you who will meet Allah carrying a camel that will be grunting, or a cow that will be mooing, or a goat that will be bleating.” Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raised both his hands until the whiteness of his armpits could be seen, and he said, “O Allah! Have I conveyed (Your message)?” (Sayyiduna Abu Humayd [may Allah be pleased with him] says:) My eyes saw this and my ears heard this.
