Hadith 1214
Sayyiduna ‘Adi bin ‘Umayrah al-Kindi (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “If we appoint any person from among you to a position, and then he conceals a needle or anything more than that, it is embezzlement (ghulul), and he will bring it with him on the Day of Resurrection.” Upon hearing this, a dark-complexioned Ansari man stood up—as if I am seeing him now—and said, “O Messenger of Allah! Take back your position from me.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “What happened to you?” He replied, “I heard you say such-and-such (i.e., that even a needle will be held accountable for).” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “I say now: If we appoint anyone to a position, he should bring everything, whether little or much. Then, whatever he is given, he may take, and whatever he is not given, he should refrain from. (In this case, there will be no accountability.)”
