Hadith 1182
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Rabah that Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that several groups traveled to Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) during the month of Ramadan. Abdullah bin Rabah said that we used to prepare food for each other, meaning we would invite each other, and Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) would often invite us to his place. One day I said that I would also prepare food and invite everyone to my place, so I ordered the food to be prepared and in the evening I met Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) and said that tonight the invitation is at my place. Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "You told me before I could tell you (meaning I was going to invite today)." I said, "Yes." Then I invited all of them. Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O group of Ansar! I will narrate to you a hadith about yourselves," then he mentioned the conquest of Makkah. After that, he said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came until he entered Makkah and sent Sayyiduna Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) to one side and Sayyiduna Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) to the other side (i.e., one to the right and the other to the left), and made Sayyiduna Abu Ubaidah bin Al-Jarrah the leader of those who did not have armor; they went through the valley, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was in one group. He (peace and blessings be upon him) saw me and said, "Is that Abu Hurairah?" I said, "O Messenger of Allah! I am present." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Let no one come to me except the Ansar," and Shayban, the other narrator, added that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Call the Ansar for me." Because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had great trust in the Ansar and they had no interest in the people of Makkah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) considered it appropriate to keep them. Then they all gathered around the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Quraysh also gathered their groups and followers and said, "We will put them forward; if anything is gained, we will be with them, and if any calamity befalls, we will give whatever is asked of us." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do you see the groups and followers of Quraysh?" Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) struck one hand on the other (meaning, strike the fighting disbelievers of Makkah and do not leave any of them) and said, "Meet me at Safa." Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Then we went; whoever among us wanted to kill any (disbeliever), he would kill him, and no one confronted us, until Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) came and said, 'O Messenger of Allah! The group of Quraysh has perished; from today there is no more Quraysh.' The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, 'Whoever enters the house of Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) is safe' (this the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to honor Abu Sufyan at his request)." The Ansar began saying to each other that he (i.e., the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him) has become fond of his homeland and has become soft towards his family. Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "And revelation began to come, and when revelation would come, we would know, and as long as the revelation continued, no one would raise their eyes towards the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) until the revelation ended. So when the revelation ended, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, 'O people of Ansar!' They said, 'O Messenger of Allah! We are present.' He (peace and blessings be upon him) said, 'Did you say that this man has become fond of his village?' They said, 'Indeed, we said this.' He (peace and blessings be upon him) said, 'Never! I am Allah's servant and His Messenger (and what you said was made known to me by revelation, but consider me only as Allah's servant. Do not elevate me as the Christians elevated Isa (peace be upon him)). I migrated towards Allah and towards you; now my life is with you and my death is with you.'" Hearing this, the Ansar ran weeping and began to say, "By Allah, what we said was only out of eagerness for Allah and His Messenger (meaning our intention was that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, should not leave us and should remain in our city)." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Indeed, Allah and His Messenger confirm you and accept your excuse." Then people (to save their lives) went to the house of Abu Sufyan, and people closed their doors, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to the Black Stone and kissed it, then performed Tawaf of the Ka'bah (even though he was not in Ihram because he had a helmet on his head), then came to an idol that was placed on one side of the Ka'bah and people used to worship it. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had a bow in his hand and was holding its corner; when he came to the idol, he began to poke its eye and said, "Truth has come and falsehood has vanished." When he finished the Tawaf, he came to the mountain of Safa and climbed it until he could see the Ka'bah, then raised both hands and began to praise Allah and supplicate as Allah willed. (Al-Isra: 81).
