Hadith 1180
´Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that we set out towards Khaybar with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Then Allah Almighty granted us victory, but we did not obtain gold or silver as booty (i.e., we did not get gold and silver), rather we acquired goods, grain, and clothing as spoils of war. Then we proceeded towards a valley, and with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was a slave of his (whose name was Madgham), who had been gifted to him by a man from Judham named Rifa‘ah bin Zayd, and he was from Banu Dubayb. When we descended into the valley, and the slave of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood up to untie his saddle, suddenly an (unseen) arrow struck him, which caused his death. We said, “O Messenger of Allah! Congratulations, he is a martyr.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Never! By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), the cloak which he took from the spoils of Khaybar on that day, before the distribution of the booty, is burning upon him like fire.” Hearing this, the people became afraid, and a man came with a strap or two straps and said, “O Messenger of Allah! I found these on the day of Khaybar.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “This strap or these straps are (also) fire (i.e., if you had not returned them, these straps would have become burning coals and would have clung to you or you would have been punished because of them on the Day of Resurrection).”
