Hadith 1137
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: One of the Prophets from among the Prophets waged jihad, so he said to his people: No man should go with me who has married a woman and wishes to consummate with her but has not yet done so, nor the one who has built a house but has not yet raised its roof, nor the one who has bought sheep or pregnant she-camels and is waiting for them to give birth (because their hearts will remain attached to these things and they will not be able to participate in jihad with full peace of mind). Then that Prophet waged jihad, and at the time of Asr or near Asr, he reached the village where the jihad was to take place. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to the sun: You are also obedient and I am also obedient. O Allah! Hold it back for a little while over me (so that the night of Saturday does not come, because fighting on Saturday was forbidden and this battle was on Friday). Then the sun was held back until Allah granted them victory. Then the people gathered the spoils of war, and a fire came from the sky to consume it, but it did not consume it. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Someone among you has committed treachery in the spoils of war (therefore this offering was not accepted). So let one man from each group pledge allegiance to me. Then all pledged allegiance, and when the hand of one man touched the Prophet’s hand, the Prophet said: Treachery is found among you. Let your tribe pledge allegiance to me. Then that tribe pledged allegiance, and when the hands of two or three men touched the Prophet’s hand and clung to it, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: You have committed treachery. Then they brought out gold equal to the head of a bull. That too was placed with the spoils of war that had been set on high ground (to be consumed by fire). Then the fire came and consumed it. And for those before us, spoils of war were not lawful for anyone; they were made lawful only for us, because Allah saw our weakness and helplessness, so He made the spoils of war lawful for us.
