Mukhtasar Muslim

Abu Ishaq says that he heard from Sayyiduna Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding this verse: “Those Muslims who sit (at home) and those who fight (in Allah’s cause) are not equal (i.e., the rank of those who fight is much greater),” that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed Sayyiduna Zaid to bring a bone, and he wrote this verse on it. Then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umm Maktum complained about his blindness (i.e., I am blind, so I cannot go for jihad; will my rank be less because of this?). At that time, these words were revealed: “those who are not disabled” (and the disabled will be equal in rank to the mujahideen).
