Hadith 1067
Iyas bin Salamah narrates from his father, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said: We set out with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, for a battle, and there we suffered hardship (meaning a shortage of food and drink) to the extent that we intended to slaughter our riding camels. Then, on the order of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, we gathered our provisions and spread out a leather sheet, and everyone’s provisions were collected on it. Salamah, may Allah be pleased with him, said: I stretched out to measure it, and found it to be only as much space as a goat occupies when it sits, while we were fourteen hundred men. Then we all ate to our fill, and after that, each of us filled his own provision bag. Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Is there water for ablution? A man brought a little water in a bucket, so he, peace and blessings be upon him, poured it into a pit, and all fourteen hundred of us performed ablution with that water, letting it flow freely. After that, eight more men came and asked: Is there water for ablution? The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The water for ablution has run out.
