Hadith 1060
Sayyiduna Zaid bin Khalid Al-Juhani, may Allah be pleased with him, who was among the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about lost gold or silver. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Recognize its binding and its pouch, then announce it among the people for a year. If no one recognizes it, then spend it, but it will remain a trust with you, and after spending it, whenever its owner comes, you must return it to him. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about a lost camel, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: What concern do you have with it? Its feet are with it, it has its water-skin, it drinks water, it eats the leaves of trees, until its owner finds it. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about a lost goat, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Take it, for the goat is either yours, your brother’s, or the wolf’s.
