Hadith 1046
Narrated from Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her): The Quraysh became concerned about the woman who had committed theft during the blessed era of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), at the time of the conquest of Makkah. The people said, “Who will intercede with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding her?” They said, “Who can dare to do so before you except our master Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him), who is beloved to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).” Eventually, the woman was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and our master Usama (may Allah be pleased with him) interceded for her. The color of the Prophet’s face changed (due to anger), and he said, “Are you interceding regarding one of the limits set by Allah?” Our master Usama (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “O Messenger of Allah! Please seek forgiveness for me.” When evening came, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and delivered a sermon. First, he praised Allah as He deserves, then said, “Those before you were destroyed because when a noble person among them committed theft, they would let him go, but when a poor (weak) person committed theft, they would enforce the punishment upon him. By Him in Whose hand is my soul, if Fatima (may Allah be pleased with her), the daughter of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), were to steal, I would cut off her hand.” Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) said that after her hand was cut off, the woman repented sincerely and got married, and she used to come to me, and I would present her needs to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
