Hadith 1042
Sayyiduna Abu Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) says that Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) delivered a sermon and said: O people! Carry out the prescribed punishment on your slave women and slave men, whether they are married or not (that is, flog them). Because a slave woman of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) committed adultery, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered me to flog her. I saw that she had recently given birth. I feared that if I flogged her, she might die. I mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so he said: You did well (by postponing the flogging). In another narration, it is added: Leave her until she becomes well (that is, until she is purified from postnatal bleeding. The same ruling applies to a sick woman; the prescribed punishment will not be carried out on her until she recovers).
