Hadith 990
Sayyiduna Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) says that my father (may Allah be pleased with him) gave me some of his wealth as a gift. My mother, Amrah bint Rawahah (may Allah be pleased with her), said that I will only be pleased with this (gift of wealth) if you make the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) a witness to it. My father, Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him), went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to make him a witness over this wealth. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked, "Have you given the same (wealth) to all your children?" He replied, "No." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Fear Allah and be just among your children." Then my father returned and took back that gift. (Hibah means gift.)

Hadith 991
Sayyiduna Nu’man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) says that my father (may Allah be pleased with him) took me to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, “O Messenger of Allah! Bear witness that I have given (my son) Nu’man such and such things from my wealth as a gift.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, “Have you given all your sons the same as you have given to Nu’man?” My father (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, “No.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Then do not make me a witness, rather make someone else a witness.” Then he said, “Do you like that all your children should be equal in showing kindness to you?” My father replied, “Yes.” So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Then do not do this (i.e., do not give to one and not to the others).”
