Hadith 987
Sayyiduna Sa'id bin Jubair says that Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: "Thursday, what is Thursday?" Then he wept until the pebbles became wet with his tears. I said, "O Ibn Abbas! What is the matter with Thursday?" He said: "When the illness of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) intensified, he said, 'Bring me (inkpot and tablet) so that I may write something for you, after which you will never go astray.' (Upon hearing this) people began to argue (about the paper and pen), and there should be no arguing in the presence of the Prophet. They said, 'What is the condition of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? Can idle talk be uttered by him as well?' Then understand, understand well from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said, 'Go away from me, for what I am engaged in is better than what you are engaged in (argument and disagreement).' I advise you of three things: One is that you expel the polytheists from the Arabian Peninsula. The second is that you treat the delegations that come as I used to treat them (so that other nations may be pleased and inclined towards Islam). And the third thing, Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) did not mention, or Sa'id said: I forgot."
