Hadith 984
Talhah bin Musarrif says: I asked Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him), "Did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) make a will (regarding wealth or anything else)?" He said, "No." Then I asked, "Then why was making a will made obligatory upon Muslims? Or why were they commanded to make a will?" He said, "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made a will to act upon the Book of Allah, the Exalted."

Hadith 986
Aswad bin Yazid says that people mentioned to Umm al-Mu'minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) that Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was the executor (wasi) of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). So she said, "When did he (peace and blessings be upon him) make him the executor? I was holding the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to my chest, or he (peace and blessings be upon him) was in my lap, when he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked for a basin, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) fell into my lap, and I did not realize that he (peace and blessings be upon him) had passed away. So at what time did he make a will (to Ali)?"
