Hadith 897
Narrated from Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: Three things became known because of Barirah. One is that she was given the choice regarding her husband’s case when she was freed. The second is that she received (charity) meat. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me and there was meat cooking in a pot over the fire. He (peace be upon him) asked for food, so bread and some household curry were brought before him. He (peace be upon him) said: Wasn’t there meat cooking in the pot on the stove? The people said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah! But that meat was charity which was given to Barirah, and we thought it inappropriate to serve it to you. So he (peace be upon him) said: It was charity for her, but for us it is a gift from her side. The third is that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding Barirah: Wala’ (the right of inheritance/loyalty) will belong to the one who sets free.
