Hadith 850
`Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that` during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and during the caliphate of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and the first two years of the caliphate of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), if someone pronounced three divorces at once, it was counted as only one. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said that people have started to hasten in a matter in which they were given respite, so if we enforce it, it would be appropriate. Then he enforced it (i.e., he decreed that whoever pronounces three divorces at once, all three will take effect).
