Hadith 766
`Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that` when Allah Almighty granted His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) victory over Makkah, he (peace be upon him) stood among the people and praised and glorified Allah Almighty, then said: Allah Almighty prevented the people of the Elephant from entering Makkah, and He gave authority over it to His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and the believers. And before me, fighting in it was not made lawful for anyone, and it was made lawful for me only for a short period of the day. And after me, it will never be lawful for anyone. Then its game should not be chased, its thorn should not be broken, its lost property should not be picked up except by one who announces it so that it may be returned to its owner. And if someone is killed, his heir has two options: either to accept blood money (compensation) or to have the killer executed in retribution. Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), except for Idhkhir (a type of grass), do not make it unlawful, for we use it in our graves and houses (it is used in roofing). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Fine, Idhkhir (the grass) is allowed, you may cut it. Then a man from Yemen named Abu Shah stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah! Write it down for me. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Write it down for Abu Shah. Walid said: I asked Awza'i what is meant by "O Messenger of Allah! Write it down for me." He said: This very sermon which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) delivered (i.e., Abu Shah had it written down because it was a matter of great benefit).
