Hadith 677
Ya’la ibn Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from his father that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was at Ji’ranah, and that man was wearing a cloak on which there was some perfume, or he said there was some yellowish tint. He asked, “O Messenger of Allah, what do you command me regarding the (method of) ‘Umrah?” Meanwhile, revelation began to descend upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so a cloth was placed over him. Ya’la (may Allah be pleased with him) says, “I wished that I could see the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at the time when revelation descended upon him.” Then he says that Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “Do you wish to see the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while revelation is descending upon him?” Then Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) lifted the corner of the cloth, and I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) panting and snoring. The narrator said, “I think he said, ‘like a young camel pants.’” Then, when the revelation was complete, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Where is the questioner who was asking about ‘Umrah?” (And he said,) “Wash off the yellowish tint or,” he said, “the effect of perfume, etc., from your clothes, and take off your shirt, and do in ‘Umrah what you do in Hajj.”
