Hadith 660
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: We came with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in the state of Ihram for Hajj Mufrad (single Hajj). (Perhaps his and some of the companions’ Ihram was like this, while the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) was Qarin [performing Hajj and Umrah together]). And Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) came in the state of Ihram for Umrah, until when they reached (the place) Sarif, Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) began menstruating. Then when we came to Makkah and performed Tawaf of the Ka’bah and Sa’i between Safa and Marwah, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) commanded us that whoever does not have a Hadi (sacrificial animal) should open his Ihram (i.e., become halal). So we said: What kind of halal? He (peace be upon him) said: Complete halal. So then we completely opened our Ihram. The narrator said: Then we had intercourse with our women, applied perfume, and wore clothes, and at that time there were four nights left between us and ‘Arafah. Then on the Day of Tarwiyah (i.e., the 8th of Dhul-Hijjah), we put on Ihram (for Hajj). Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) and found her weeping, so he asked: What has happened to you? She said: I have begun menstruating, and the people have opened their Ihram, but I have neither been able to open my Ihram nor perform Tawaf, and now the people are going for Hajj. So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: This is a thing that Allah has decreed for all the daughters of Adam. So perform ghusl (ritual bath) and put on Ihram for Hajj. So she did so and stood at the places of standing (i.e., the rites of Hajj), until when she became pure, she performed Tawaf of the House (Ka’bah) and Sa’i between Safa and Marwah. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: You have become halal from both Hajj and Umrah. She said: O Messenger of Allah! I find in my heart that I did not perform Tawaf (i.e., Tawaf Qudum) until I had completed Hajj. So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: O Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) (son of Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him)! Take her to Tan’eem and let her perform Umrah. This happened on the night when we were staying at Muhassab.
