Hadith 607
Narrated by Sayyiduna Salamah bin Akwa’ (may Allah be pleased with him): When this verse was revealed, “And as for those who can fast with difficulty, they have (a choice either to fast or) to feed a poor person (for every day)” (Al-Baqarah: 184), whoever wished not to fast would leave the fast and give fidyah. Then the following verse was revealed, which abrogated it. (Meaning, if one has the ability, then he cannot break the fast and give fidyah instead.)
