Hadith 596
Narrated Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) traveled during Ramadan and observed the fast until he reached the place of Usfan. Then he (peace be upon him) asked for a bowl, in which there was something to drink, and he (peace be upon him) drank it during the day so that everyone could see. He continued to break the fast until he reached Mecca. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) both observed the fast and broke it, so whoever wishes may fast and whoever wishes may break the fast.

Hadith 597
Narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) set out towards Makkah in the year of the conquest of Makkah during Ramadan and he was fasting, until he reached (the place) of Kura‘ al-Ghamim, and the people were also fasting. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) called for a cup of water, and he raised it until the people looked at him, then he drank it. (After that, the people also drank.) Then it was said to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that some people were still fasting, so he said: "They are the disobedient ones, they are the disobedient ones."
