Hadith 521
Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) said: In the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we used to give Sadaqat al-Fitr on behalf of every young and old, free and slave, one sa’ of wheat or one sa’ of cheese or barley or dates or raisins. Then when Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) came for Hajj or 'Umrah, he addressed the people from the pulpit and said: I think that two mudd (i.e., half a sa’) of the wheat of Syria is equal to one sa’ of dates (i.e., in value). So the people accepted this. But Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I will continue to give what I used to give (i.e., one sa’) as long as I live. (Subhan Allah, this was adherence to the hadith and aversion to opinion and analogy.)
