Hadith 433
Sayyiduna Ya'la bin Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I said to Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) that Allah Almighty says: "There is no sin on you if you shorten the prayer if you fear that the disbelievers may harm you" (An-Nisa: 101), and now people are in peace (i.e., is shortening the prayer still permissible or not?). He said: I was also surprised as you are surprised, so I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about this matter. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This is a charity that Allah has given you, so accept His charity (i.e., shorten the prayer during travel even without fear).
