Hadith 417
‘Sayyiduna Abu Rifa’ah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was delivering a sermon. He says: I submitted, “O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! A poor (traveler) man has come to ask about his religion and does not know what his religion is.” Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards me, left his sermon, and came to me. A chair was brought, and I think its legs were made of iron. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sat on it (it is understood that sitting on a chair is not prohibited) and began to teach me what Allah had taught him. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) returned and completed his sermon. (This was the perfection of his character, and it is understood that a necessary matter is permissible during the sermon.)
