Hadith 154
It is narrated from Ishaq bin Abi Talha that Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Sayyidah Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her)—and she was the grandmother of the narrator of the hadith, Ishaq bin Abi Talha—came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) was also sitting there. She (Umm Sulaym) said, “O Messenger of Allah! If a woman sees in her sleep what a man sees (i.e., experiences a discharge of semen), what is the ruling?” Upon hearing this, Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) said, “O Umm Sulaym! You have disgraced women (because only a very lustful woman would have a wet dream and discharge semen). May dust be upon your hands!” (And she said this as a good thing.) The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “O Aisha! May dust be upon your hands,” and he said to Umm Sulaym, “O Umm Sulaym! When a woman sees such a thing, then in that case she should perform ghusl (ritual bath).”
