Hadith 140
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stayed behind during a journey, and I also stayed behind with him. When the Prophet (peace be upon him) finished relieving himself, he asked, “Do you have any water?” So I brought a vessel of water. The Prophet (peace be upon him) washed his hands and face. Then, when he wanted to take his arms out of his sleeves, the sleeves became tight (i.e., he could not take them out), so the Prophet (peace be upon him) took his hand out from below and placed the cloak on his shoulders, and washed both hands, and wiped over his forehead, turban, and leather socks. Then he mounted (his ride), and I also mounted. When we reached our people, they were praying. Sayyiduna ‘Abdur Rahman bin ‘Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) was leading them in prayer, and he had already performed one rak‘ah. When he realized that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had arrived, he began to move back. The Prophet (peace be upon him) gestured to him to remain in his place. So he led the prayer. When he finished with the salam, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stood up, and I also stood up, and we performed the rak‘ah that we had missed before.
