Hadith 46
‘Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Abi Bakr narrates from his father (Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said, “Shall I not inform you of the greatest of the major sins?” He repeated this three times. (Then he said:) “Associating partners with Allah (this is obviously the greatest major sin), secondly, disobedience to one’s parents, thirdly, giving false testimony or speaking lies.” And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was reclining, then he sat up and began to repeat this (so that people would be fully aware and refrain from these acts), until we said in our hearts, “Would that he would remain silent.” (So that he would not be further distressed by thinking about these sins that people commit.)

Killing a soul whom Allah has forbidden to kill, except with due right. 4. Consuming usury. 5. Consuming the property of an orphan. 6. Fleeing from the battlefield on the day of fighting. 7. Slandering chaste, believing, innocent women who are unaware of indecency.
