Ma'dan bin Abi Talhah narrates that Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) delivered a sermon on Friday in which he mentioned the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and he mentioned Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him). Then he said: "I am not leaving behind any issue after me more important than the issue of kalalah, and I have not asked about any issue as repeatedly as I have about kalalah, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not show such strictness with me in any matter as he did in the matter of kalalah, to the extent that he poked his blessed finger into my chest and said: 'O Umar! Is not that verse sufficient for you which was revealed at the end of Surah An-Nisa in the summer season?' Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'If I remain alive, I will issue such a clear ruling about kalalah that everyone will judge accordingly, whether he reads the Qur'an or not.'"
