Abu Al-Minhāl says: One of my partners sold silver on credit until the Hajj season and came to me and informed me. I said, "This is not correct." He said, "I sold it in the market and no one forbade it." Then I went to Sayyiduna Barā’ bin ‘Āzib (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked him, and he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Madinah and we used to conduct such sales. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If it is hand to hand (cash), then there is no objection, but if it is on credit, then it is usury. Go to Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him), for his trading is more than mine (so he will be well aware of this issue). I went to him and asked him, and he said the same.
