Hadith 883

Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that a man from Banu Udhrah set his slave free as a mudabbar (i.e., he said, "You will be free after my death"). News of this reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so he (peace be upon him) asked, "Do you have any wealth besides him?" He replied, "No." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) announced, "Who will buy him from me?" So Nu'aym bin Abdullah Al-'Adawi bought him for eight hundred dirhams and brought the dirhams to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave them to the slave's owner and said, "First spend on yourself, then if anything remains, on your family, then if anything remains, on your relatives, then if anything remains, here and there," and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed forward, to the right, and to the left (i.e., give in charity).
