Hadith 872

Narrated from Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) and ‘Abd bin Zam‘a (may Allah be pleased with him) disputed over a boy. Sayyiduna Sa’d said: O Messenger of Allah! This boy is my brother’s son; my brother’s name is ‘Utbah bin Abi Waqqas, and he had told me that this is my son. Please observe the resemblance in him. And ‘Abd bin Zam‘a (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! This boy is my brother; he was born from my father’s slave woman on my father’s bed. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at him and saw that he closely resembled ‘Utbah, and said: O ‘Abd! The boy belongs to the one on whose bed he was born, and the adulterer gets nothing but deprivation or stones. And O Sawdah (may Allah be pleased with her), daughter of Zam‘a! Observe veil from him. After that, Umm al-Mu’minin Sawdah (may Allah be pleased with her) never saw him.
