Hadith 838

´Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that` the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) had nine wives, and when he would take turns among them, he would come to the first wife on the ninth day. (For this reason) it was the custom of the wives that whichever house the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in, they would all gather in that house. One day, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in the house of Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her), and Umm al-Mu’minin Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her) came, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reached out his hand towards her. So (Aisha) said, "This is Zainab." Thus, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) withdrew his hand, and a dispute began between Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa and Zainab (may Allah be pleased with them both), until their voices were raised and the call to prayer was made. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by them and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Go out for the prayer and put dust in their mouths." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went out, and Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) said, "Now when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has finished the prayer, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) will come and be angry with me." Then, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had finished the prayer, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came to them and scolded them harshly and said, "Do you do such a thing (i.e., do you shout and raise your voice in front of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him)?"
