‘Sayyidah Judamah bint Wahb Asadiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her), the sister of Sayyiduna ‘Ukkashah, says: I went with some people to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he was saying: I intended to prohibit ghīlah, but then I saw that the people of Rome and Persia practice ghīlah and it does not harm their children. Then the Companions asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about ‘azl (withdrawal), so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is a hidden “wa’d” (i.e., it is secretly burying the child alive).
