Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married me when I was six years old, and when I was sent to his house (rukhsati), I was nine years old. She says: Then we came to Medina, and there I had a fever for a month, and my hair reached my ears (i.e., it had fallen out during the illness). Then Umm Ruman (she is the mother of Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa, may Allah be pleased with her) came to me while I was on a swing, and my friends were with me. She called me, so I went to her, and I did not know why she had called me. Then she took my hand and made me stand at the door, and I was gasping (as someone does when out of breath) until my breathing calmed down. She took me into a house where there were some women of the Ansar, and they said: May Allah bless you and grant you a share of goodness. (In short) my mother handed me over to them. They washed my head and adorned me, and I did not feel any fear until the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came at forenoon and I was handed over to him.
