Hadith 777

Ibrahim Taimi narrates from his father that he said: Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) delivered a sermon to us and said: Whoever claims that we (i.e., the Ahl al-Bayt) have anything other than the Book of Allah and this scroll— the narrator said the scroll was hanging from the sheath of his sword— then he has lied. And in this scroll, there is mention of the ages of camels (regarding zakat) and some details about wounds (i.e., regarding retribution and blood money). And in this scroll, it is also written that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The area of Madinah between Mount ‘Ayr and Mount Thawr is a sanctuary (Haram). So whoever introduces a new thing (i.e., an innovation) in Madinah or gives shelter to an innovator, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people. Allah will not accept any obligatory or voluntary act from him. And the protection given by any Muslim is equal; even the protection given by the lowest Muslim is to be honored. And whoever attributes himself to anyone other than his father, or claims to be the slave of anyone other than his masters, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people, and Allah will not accept any obligatory or voluntary act from him on the Day of Resurrection. (* Here, “hadath” refers to any crime, and this (i.e., innovation) is also included in it.)
