Hadith 751

Bakr bin Abdullah Muzani says: I was sitting near the Ka'bah with Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) when a villager came and said, "What is the reason that I see the children of your uncle serving honey drink and milk, while you serve date drink? Have you chosen this out of need or out of miserliness?" Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) replied, "All praise is due to Allah! We are neither in need nor miserly. The real reason is that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once came on his she-camel, and Usamah (may Allah be pleased with him) was behind him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked for water, so we brought a bowl of date drink. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) drank from it, and what remained he gave to Sayyiduna Usamah (may Allah be pleased with him) to drink, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, 'You have done well, and do so always.' Therefore, what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has commanded, we do not wish to change."
