Hadith 687

‘Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Haneen narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas and Miswar bin Makhramah (may Allah be pleased with them) that’ there was a dispute between them at (the place of) Abwa. (About this matter that) Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that a Muhrim can wash his head, and Sayyiduna Miswar (may Allah be pleased with him) said that he cannot (wash it). So Abdullah bin Haneen said that Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) sent me to Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) to ask him about this. I found him bathing between two wooden poles of a well, and he was behind a cloth screen. I greeted him with salam, and he asked, “Who is it?” I said, “I am Abdullah bin Haneen, and Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) has sent me to you to ask how the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to wash his head while in Ihram.” So Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) placed both his hands on the cloth and lowered it a little until I could see his head. And he instructed the man who was pouring water over his head to pour water, so he poured water over him (his head). Then he would move his head and rub it forward and backward with his hands. Then he said, “I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wash (his head) in this manner.”
