Hadith 659

´It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubaid bin Juraij that` he said to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them): O Abu Abdur Rahman! I have seen you doing four things which I have not seen any of your companions doing. He said: O son of Juraij! What are those things? He said: First, I see that you do not touch any of the corners of the Ka'bah during Tawaf except the two corners which are towards Yemen. Second, you wear Sabti (tanned leather) shoes. Third, you dye (your beard) with saffron or wars, etc. Fourth, when you were in Makkah, people would start reciting Talbiyah as soon as they saw the new moon, but you recited it on the eighth of Dhul-Hijjah. So Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: (Listen!) As for the corners, I have not seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) touching them except those which are towards Yemen. And as for the Sabti shoes, I have seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) wearing such shoes in which there was no hair, and he would perform ablution in them (i.e., after performing ablution, he would wear them on his wet feet), so I also like to wear them. As for the yellow color, I have seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) dyeing with it (i.e., his hair or his clothes), so I also like to dye with it. And as for the Talbiyah, I have not seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) reciting the Talbiyah except when his she-camel stood up with him mounted (i.e., near the mosque of Dhul-Hulaifah).
