‘Mother of the Believers, Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to perform i'tikaf, he would enter the place of i'tikaf after offering the morning prayer. And once, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered for his tent to be set up (in the mosque). It was set up, and he had intended to perform i'tikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan. So, Mother of the Believers Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her) asked for a tent to be set up for herself, and it was set up for her as well. Then, when the other Mothers of the Believers asked, their tents were also set up. Then, when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had offered the Fajr prayer, he saw all the tents and said, “What good intention have these people made? (There is a scent of showing off in this.)” So, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered for his tent to be taken down, and it was taken down, and he abandoned i'tikaf in Ramadan until he later performed i'tikaf in the first ten days of Shawwal.
