Hadith 61

Narrated from Sayyiduna Talhah bin Ubaidullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man from among the people of Najd (Najd is a region in Arabia) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). His hair was disheveled and his voice was heard murmuring, but it was not understood what he was saying until he came near to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then it became clear that he was asking about Islam. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said that five prayers are obligatory in the day and night. He said, “Is there any prayer obligatory upon me besides these?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “No, except that you perform voluntary prayers if you wish.” And there are the fasts of Ramadan. He said, “Is there any fast obligatory upon me besides Ramadan?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “No, except that you observe voluntary fasts if you wish.” Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned Zakat to him. He said, “Is there any Zakat obligatory upon me besides this?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “No, except that you give voluntary charity if you wish.” The narrator said that then the man turned his back and left, saying, “By Allah, I will neither add to this nor decrease from it.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “If he is truthful in what he says, then indeed he has succeeded.” In another narration, it is mentioned that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “By his father, if he is truthful, he has attained salvation,” or (he said), “By his father, if he is truthful in what he says, he will enter Paradise.”
