Hadith 529

`Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says that` Abu Talhah Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) was very wealthy in Madinah, and his most beloved wealth was a garden called Bairuha, which was in front of the Prophet’s Mosque. And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to go into it and drink its sweet water. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said that when this verse was revealed: “You will not attain righteousness until you spend from that which you love in the way of Allah,” Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and submitted to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): Allah Almighty says, “You will not attain righteousness until you spend from your beloved wealth,” and of all my wealth, Bairuha is the most beloved to me. It is charity in the way of Allah, and I hope for its reward from Allah and for it to be stored for me in the Hereafter. So, O Messenger of Allah, dispose of it wherever you wish. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This is profitable wealth! This is profitable wealth! I have heard what you said, and I think it appropriate that you distribute it among your relatives. Then Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) distributed it among his relatives and paternal cousins.
