´Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says that when the day of Hunayn came, the people of (the tribe of) Hawazin and Ghatafan and other tribes brought their children and animals, and there were ten thousand warriors with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and also the people of Makkah (who had become Muslim at the time of the conquest of Makkah), who were called Tulaqa. Then all of them turned their backs at once, until the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was left alone. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that on that day, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) called out twice, without saying anything in between. First, he turned his face to the right and called out, "O group of Ansar!" So the Ansar replied, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! We are present, and may you be pleased, we are with you." Then he turned his face to the left and called out, "O group of Ansar!" So they again replied, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! We are present, and may you be pleased, we are with you." And on that day, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was riding a white mule. He dismounted and said, "I am the servant of Allah (there is no station of pride greater than the station of servitude; Shaykh Akbar has explained this well, that the station of servitude is specific to the Prophets and no one else shares in this station. Glory be to Allah, being the servant of Allah and His Messenger is such a great blessing), and (I am) the Messenger." So the polytheists were defeated. And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) received a great amount of spoils of war, so he distributed it among all the Muhajirin and the people of Makkah, and gave nothing to the Ansar. Then the Ansar said, "In times of difficulty, we are called, and the spoils are given to others." When this news reached the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), he gathered them in a tent and said, "O group of Ansar! What is this that has reached me from you?" Then they remained silent, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "O group of Ansar! Are you not pleased that people take the world and you take Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to your homes?" They said, "Indeed, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! We are pleased." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "If people walk in one valley and the Ansar in another valley, I will take the path of the Ansar's valley." Hisham (the student of Sayyiduna Anas) said, "I said, 'O Abu Hamzah! Were you present at that time?' He replied, 'Where would I go, leaving the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)?'"
