`Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that` I went for the Eid al-Fitr prayer with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and with Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them all), and the practice of all these elders was that they would perform the prayer before the sermon, and after that, they would deliver the sermon. Then he said, even today it is as if I am seeing that scene: the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came, signaled to the people with his hand to sit down, then, passing through their rows, he (peace and blessings be upon him) came to the women, and with him was Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: ((O Prophet, when believing women come to you to give you the pledge...)) (Surah Al-Mumtahina: 12) until he (peace and blessings be upon him) finished with it. Then he said: Have you all acknowledged all of this? One of the women said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! The narrator said: I do not know who she was. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Give charity. Then Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) spread out his cloth and said: Come, may my parents be sacrificed for you. And they all began to take off their bangles and rings and put them in the cloth of Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him).
